Could we not

Could we not mercurial tempers calm,
Toxic though the lovely flow conceal.
Every living creature knows the Psalm.

Hold my liquid heart upon your palm.
See the tides reflect in silvery steel.
Could we not mercurial tempers calm,

If replacing hurt instead a balm,
Hidden in your kiss, so warm and real.
Every living creature knows the Psalm.

Alas, a simple plea, yet you abscond,
Poisoned by the element’s ruinous feel.
Could we not mercurial tempers calm,

In refrain of lover’s quivering alms
Finding strength in brokenness to kneel.
Every living creature knows the Psalm.

Within your gaze lies beauty still unknown.
Eternal in its radiant appeal.
Could we not mercurial tempers calm.
Every living creature knows the Psalm.
