Vegas days

Vegas  To the prisoner inside me
To the captive of my doubt
Who among his fantasies
Harbors the dream of breaking out

and taking his chances
alive in the world.

to open my eyes
and finally arrive in the world.

Jackson Browne. “Open My Eyes”

My daughter slept
Silent and still
and without the coy

disposition of any kind
of play
and I rested alongside
right there in light of day

City of sin, where to begin
but still we played
and in morning we
stayed out in the dawn.

Coming and going
The slovenly knowing
Asking of the plain
Man from nowhere sane

Of course he can share
No one has a care
In this city of the night
Bathed in such a blinding light.
